Shannon McKenna Schmidt, "The First Lady of World War II"

Radnor Memorial Library and Main Point Books welcome Shannon McKenna Schmidt and her new book "The First Lady of World War II: Eleanor Roosevelt’s Daring Journey to the Frontlines and Back." Shannon will be discussing the story of that trip, along with the research she did for the book. As a special treat, attendees will be the first to see slides of some of the book's source material, including then-top-secret Navy dispatches.

This event will happen in the Winsor Room at Radnor Memorial Library. Registration is requested via Eventbrite. Books are for sale in advance through Eventbrite and the Main Point Book website, and will be for sale at the event.

About The Book

"The First Lady of WWII" is the first book to tell the story of Eleanor Roosevelt’s unprecedented and courageous trip to the Pacific Theater while the United States was at war with Japan. A goodwill tour, diplomatic mission, and fact-finding foray, the 25,000-mile trip was farther, longer, and more dangerous than any previously undertaken by the First Lady. Schmidt’s new book follows Eleanor on this daring trek over vast ocean distances.

About the Author

A writer and traveler, Schmidt is the author of many books and has also written for National Geographic Traveler, and more. From 2010-2017, she traveled full-time and backpacked around the world. When not traveling, Shannon lives in Hoboken, New Jersey.
